The Department of Urology is proud to spotlight Kaylin Swoboda, MPH, education administrator, who recently joined the department and brings a thoughtful, steady approach to her role.
Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Swoboda is early in her time with UAB Urology and is already supporting the department’s educational efforts while learning the ins and outs of her position. As she settles into her role, Swoboda emphasizes adaptability and maintaining a level head in fast-paced environments.
“Stay calm, keep perspective, and remember—there’s rarely a need to panic,” Swoboda said.
She shares more about what makes her unique, the advice she carries with her, and how she spends her time outside of work.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
Swoboda: I was a collegiate swimmer and still hold a school record from my time competing. Athleticism runs in my family—my grandfather was part of the New York Mets’ 1969 World Series winning team, which I like to think inspired my competitive spirit.
What advice would you give to someone new in your role or department?
Swoboda: When things start to feel overwhelming, take a step back and give yourself a moment to reset. It’s easy to jump to conclusions when something isn’t going as planned, but often the situation is more manageable than it first appears. Stay calm, keep perspective, and remember—there’s rarely a need to panic.
Do you have any hobbies or side passions?
Swoboda: Outside of work, I enjoy exploring fashion, attending concerts, and experiencing live music. I also love spending time with friends and neighbors and regularly participate in weekly trivia nights. At home, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my fiancé and our three cats, and we like to try out new restaurants and local spots around town.
