The Gut and Arthritis

Matthew Stoll, MD, and collegues find that it has become increasingly clear that gut bacteria play a major role in the development of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Stoll has now shown that the microbiome also may contribute to another form of arthritis called spondyloarthritis (known as enthesitis-related arthritis in children).  His findings were recently published in the November 30, 2014, Arthritis Research and Therapy.
