Kelli Chaviano, D.O., assistant professor in the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine, earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, GA. Dr. Chaviano completed her osteopathic internship at Sparrow Hospital and Michigan State University in Lansing, MI. She also completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Michigan State University. Dr. Chaviano completed her pediatric rehabilitation medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. Her clinical interests/major research include: cancer rehabilitation, severe brain injury, medical education, and osteopathic manipulative medicine. 

Stephen Clark M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Dr. Clark completed his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. He then completed additional training in pediatric interventional cardiology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. His clinical interests include minimally invasive therapies for management of congenital heart disease.

Margaret Pollard Marks, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Endocrinology earned her medical degree from the Heersink School of Medicine in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Marks completed her pediatric residency and fellowship in endocrinology and diabetes at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL where she served as Chief Fellow.

James Odum, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, KS. Dr. Odum completed his pediatric residency and served as chief resident at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He completed his pediatric critical care fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. His clinical interests/major research include: sepsis, acute kidney injury, precision medicine, medical education, and children with medical complexity.

Marie A. Pfarr M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, TX. Dr. Pfarr completed her pediatric residency at the University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor, MI where she served as chief resident. She completed her pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH.

Mary Silverberg, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Neonatology, earned her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Silverberg completed her pediatric residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also completed her neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her clinical interests/major research include: influences of the maternal and neonatal microbiome on the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and influences of the oral/gut/lung axis on BPD pathogenesis. 

Emily Skoog, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine earned her medical degree from Texas A&M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine in College Station, TX. Dr. Skoog completed her pediatric residency at Baylor, Scott and White – McLane Children’s in Temple, TX. She completed her emergency medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL.

Michelle Duplantier Veters, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine earned her medical degree and completed her pediatric residency at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. She completed her hospital medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL.
