Our division provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the joints and connective tissue (rheumatic diseases), including more than 100 types of arthritis and many autoimmune diseases, ranging in complexity and severity, and requiring the treatment and expertise of trained and experienced rheumatologists. Our doctors have been trained in both internal medicine and rheumatology; therefore, the breadth of knowledge and large number of rheumatologists allows us to provide the comprehensive care for patients by physicians specialized in diseases of the joints, connective tissue and immune system, as shown below:

We operate inpatient and consultative services at University Hospital and Birmingham VA Medical Center, as well as outpatient clinics at The Kirklin Clinic and the UAB Whitaker Clinic. Our rheumatologists work closely with specialists in musculoskeletal radiology to provide cutting-edge imaging techniques and interpretation of radiographs, CT scans, and MRI scans. The Interdisciplinary Infusion Center at The Kirklin Clinic provides ready access to the latest FDA-approved intravenous medications for rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, and osteoporosis.
