Trauma & Acute Care Surgery
As the state’s only American College of Surgeons designated Level 1 Trauma Center, our acute care surgery unit is one of the major treatment centers in the southeastern U.S. for traumatic injury.
Breast & Endocrine Surgery
Our breast and endocrine surgery team provides personalized, comprehensive care for patients with a broad array of benign and malignant tumors of the breast and thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. As members of the NCI-designated O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, our surgeons are knowledgeable about the latest in breast and endocrine surgery research.
Cardiothoracic Surgery
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is widely known for its clinical and surgical excellence in adult cardiac surgery, transplant and mechanical circulatory support, adult and pediatric congenital heart surgery, and thoracic surgery.
Gastrointestinal Surgery
The gastrointestinal surgery faculty are nationally-recognized experts in the field of gastrointestinal surgery. The division boasts one of the highest-volume academic robotics programs in the country, and its bariatric surgery program is one of only 10 programs in Alabama accredited as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Pediatric Surgery
The Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children's Hospital of Alabama offers comprehensive general and specialized surgical treatment of a wide range of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent conditions. Our surgeons are all fellowship-trained specialists who are solely devoted to the care of pediatric conditions.
Plastic Surgery
The Division of Plastic Surgery provides a broad range of reconstructive and aesthetic services including microsurgery, breast reconstruction, hand surgery and craniofacial surgery. With locations at the main UAB campus, as well as Medical West in Bessemer and Mountain Brook Plastic Surgery Clinic, the division strives to provide state-of-the-art care in convenient locations.
Surgical Oncology
As members of the NCI-designated O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, our surgical oncologists aim to individualize cancer treatment plans supported by the best available evidence. We take pride in providing thorough, compassionate care for our patients, as well as helping our patients understand the basics of how cancer is diagnosed and treated. The UAB transplant surgery program is one of the busiest in the nation, performing kidney, liver, pancreas and islet cell transplants. With a 50-year history of transplant care, UAB ranks among national leaders in patient outcomes and in the number of transplants performed.
