UAB Department of Surgery residents came out to the West Pavilion Conference Center earlier this month to present their research at the 10th Annual Resident Research Day.

The event’s scientific forum gave residents from across the department the opportunity to present their own research projects and discuss their topics with an audience. Presentation topics ranged from patient recovery after surgery to surgical readmission of patients with previous opioid use.

General surgery residents Margaux Mustian, M.D., and Raoud Marayati, M.D., also took home awards for their research presentations. Mustian received the Best Outcomes/Clinical Research Award, while Marayati received the Best Basic Science Research Award.

Kelly McMasters, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the University of Louisville Department of Surgery, was featured as this year’s Resident Research Day Visiting Professor. McMasters also led Surgery Grand Rounds that morning with his talk, “Translational Research in Low-Resource Countries: The Wilms Tumor Paradigm.”
