Baker will act as a member of the committee that reviews surgery programs on behalf of the ACGME. She will participate in site visits and the accreditation process to ensure programs that will be certified or re-certified through the ACGME meet the required education standards for residents. She will also help review and revise standards on case log minimum requirements, clinical learning environment structure and expectations, patient safety and quality improvement training and utilization of competency-based milestones.

ACGME review committees typically have at least one member who is a resident at the time of appointment. Resident members are required to be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program and may not serve more than a year past the completion of their residency or fellowship.

Resident members on review committees are also members of the ACGME Council of Review Committee Residents. This council advises the ACGME board, providing input and feedback about resident matters, GME and accreditation.

Baker said she is grateful to have been chosen for this appointment and is ready to begin working in her new role.

“I am very honored and humbled to have been chosen, and I am excited to represent UAB on a national level,” she said.
