The Division of Acute Care Surgery is pleased to announce the addition of Jan O. Jansen, M.B.B.S., Dr. Med., Ph.D., currently a consultant trauma surgeon and intensivist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen, Scotland, and St. Mary’s Hospital in London, England.

Dr. Jan JansenDr. Jan JansenJansen is an internationally respected trauma surgeon and researcher who currently serves as the principal investigator on the National Institutes for Health Research-funded UK-REBOA Trial, the first randomized, controlled trial evaluating the use of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in trauma patients. Jansen completed his surgical training in the United Kingdom, followed by fellowships in trauma surgery at Johannesburg General Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, and in critical care at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center in Toronto, Canada. He recently completed his Ph.D. work on “Geospatial Optimization of Trauma Systems.” Jansen will begin as the Division of Acute Care Surgery’s director of research this fall.
