“Being a career advisor is one of my favorite roles,” Corey said. “It’s easy to do when there are so many bright and capable UAB students pursuing a career in surgery. I’m thrilled to receive this award since it recognizes something I am passionate about. I am just paying forward all of the support I’ve received over the years and it is truly my honor.”

Corey, an assistant professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery, is a leader in medical student education within the Department of Surgery and has served as the department’s clerkship program director since October 2018 after having previously served as the program’s assistant director.

Dr. Britney Corey was named Medical Student Career Advisor of the Year at this year's UAB School of Medicine Birmingham Campus Awards reception at the National Alumni House on May 17.

“She is an outstanding advocate for our students who has consistently gone above and beyond as a career advisor,” said Todd Peterson M.D., FACEP, assistant dean for students in the School of Medicine.

While Corey was unable to attend the awards reception last week, Department of Surgery Chair Herbert Chen, M.D., accepted the award on her behalf.
