Score some CME credit and check out two new videos and podcasts from Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy assistant professors Brent Haverstock, DPM, FACFAS, and Graeme McFarland, M.D. Haverstock and McFarland are both co-directors of the UAB Limb Preservation Program.
Haverstock's video, "Evaluation and Management of Diabetes-Related Foot Complications," and McFarland's video, "Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia," are available on the UAB Medicine MD Learning Channel.
Both Haverstock and McFarland have also recorded podcasts on diabetic foot wounds and chronic limb-threatening ischemia, respectively, for UAB Medicine's medical education and clinical information podcast series, UAB MedCast.
Haverstock and McFarland work together with other vascular surgery faculty within the new UAB Limb Preservation Program, which launched last year.
The UAB Limb Preservation Program represents a multidisciplinary collaboration involving numerous fields of study, including vascular surgery, podiatry and wound care. This team will focus on lower extremity limb preservation, diabetic foot care and complex wound management.
"Successful limb preservation requires a concerted multi-disciplinary effort, with vascular surgery and podiatry being central,” Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy Director Adam Beck, M.D., said. “Many other areas of expertise are required as well, but adequate blood flow and proper attention to the biomechanics of the foot are essential. Drs. Haverstock and McFarland will complete our world-class multidisciplinary limb preservation team."
