UAB Department of Surgery Dr. Martin

On Monday, February 17, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hoover Public Library, Department of Surgery Associate Professor Colin Martin, M.D., FAAP, FACS, will speak on "Diet, Stress, and Gut Health" along with Professor and Graduate Program Director of Biology Stephen Watts, Ph.D.

The Neuroscience Café is a series created in partnership with the Comprehensive Neuroscience Center and local libraries across Jefferson County. Neuroscience Café creates a unique opportunity for members of the general public to hear from UAB experts on topics impacting daily life and health. It is also a chance to have open Q&A sessions between field experts and members of the Birmingham community.

Healthcare research continues to dive deeper into the effects of diet and stress on gut health, elevating the relevancy of the topic in 2020. Googling the phrase will populate approximately 56,000,000 results.

For the public, this topic in the Neuroscience Café Series is a great opportunity to understand potential correlations between diet, stress and gut health as well as the ways in which one might begin to control it. Martin is looking forward to leading the discussion on Monday.

“I am really excited to lead a discussion with the greater Birmingham community about such a relevant health topic,” says Martin. “Dr. Stephen Watts (UAB Department of Biology) and I will discuss some of the work that we are doing on the interplay between diet, stress and gut health. We have control on what we eat and to an extent on how we manage stress.”

All members of the Birmingham community are welcome to attend The Neuroscience Café Series.
