Dr. Samantha BakerRecently-graduated Birmingham VAMC Quality Scholar and UAB general surgery research resident Samantha Baker, M.D., was recognized by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for her volunteer time, dedication and commitment as a member of the ACGME review committee.

The ACGME’s Resident Council, the Council of Review Committee Residents (CRCR), is composed of 34 members, including the current resident representatives of the ACGME Board, Review Committees, and Osteopathic Principles Committee, and a public member appointed by the ACGME Board of Directors. Baker has one more year left in her term.

President and CEO of the ACGME Thomas Nasca, M.D., MACP, acknowledged the distinctiveness of the year in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic and is thankful for the department, and Baker’s, commitment.

In addition to her role with the ACGME, Baker was recently selected as one of four resident editors across the nation for the Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME). She will support the journal in polishing and editing manuscripts for publication, and her term will last as long as she is a trainee.

Department of Surgery Chair Herbert Chen, M.D., FACS is inspired by Baker’s involvement on top of her resident responsibilities.

“Dr. Baker reminds us all of our calling to go above and beyond in supporting medical education,” said Chen. “Continuing education allows us, as providers, to continue to grow, learn and develop the next generation of surgeons, ultimately improving patient experience and furthering the field of healthcare.”
