Children's of AlabamaPhoto used with permission of Children's of AlabamaU.S. News & World Report’s(USNWR) 2020 Children’s Hospital of Alabama at UAB report ranked the following specialties: Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery 28th in the nation, Pediatric Gastroenterology & GI Surgery 41st in the nation, and Pediatric Cancer 27th in the nation.

Overall, Children’s of Alabama is nationally ranked in nine pediatric specialties. Children’s of Alabama is only one of 27 children’s hospitals ranked in nine specialties. Two divisions within the UAB Department of Surgery contribute to these specialties and their rankings. The Division of Pediatric Surgery supports both Pediatric Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and the Pediatric Cancer specialties, while the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery contributes to the Pediatric Cardiology & Heart Surgery specialty and its ranking.

“The Division of Pediatric Surgery is very proud of the USNWR ranking for Children’s of Alabama,” said Chen. “I know how hard our faculty work with our pediatric partners to support Children’s of Alabama as a tertiary care referral center for the State of Alabama and much of the southeast. It is so inspiring to see faculty across our division lend their unwavering dedication to improving pediatric patient experience and outcomes.”

Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery Director James Davies, M.D., is pleased to see Children’s of Alabama so well-represented.

Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Robert Dabal, M.D., is proud of the work of the pediatric cardiac surgery team.
