Division of Pediatric Associate Professor Colin Martin, M.D., FACS, spoke this week at the University of Cincinnati Surgery Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Grand Rounds.

Within the UAB Department of Surgery, Martin is a champion of DEI efforts. He serves as the associate vice chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion well as program co-director of the Pre-College Research Internship for Students from Minority Backgrounds (PRISM) program.

Martin was invited by the University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery as a guest speaker and delivered his message alongside Senior General Surgery Resident, Alex Cortez. M.D.  Their joint talk-title was “How Can We Do Better?  Opening the discussion on how to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in surgery.”

As part of the Grand Rounds session, Martin discussed both live questions presented by the audience as well as questions submitted anonymously ahead of time. He was honored to be included in the session.

“It is certainly an honor to be included among the leaders of surgical diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Martin. “It was a pleasure to join the UC Cincinnati Department of Surgery and discuss improving our field to be as diverse, inclusive and equitable as possible.”
