Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Director of Education Kim Hendershot, M.D., was recently elected as vice-chair of the Association for Surgical Education (ASE) Graduate Surgical Education (GSE) committee.

Hendershot will assume this role starting at the annual ASE meeting this week and will serve as vice-chair for two years. She will then ascend to Chair of the GSE committee starting in 2023 for a second two-year term.

The ASE is the premier organization dedicated to all facets of surgical education. The mission of the ASE is to promote, recognize, and reward excellence, innovation, and scholarship in surgical education.

The ASE GSE committee is involved with surgical education at the resident and fellow levels and works on projects related to resident wellness, micro-aggressions, transition to practice, and career planning for surgical education as well as other projects that members bring forth.

“I look forward to leading the Graduate Surgical Education committee, alongside the chair,” said Hendershot. “It is wonderful to represent the UAB Department of Surgery on this national platform since the education of our trainees is such a central mission of the department.”
