Dr. Robert HollisDivision of Gastrointestinal Surgery Assistant Professor Robert Hollis, M.D., MSPH, has been named associate scientist for the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC).

As an associate scientist, Hollis will support the MHRC’s mission to generate and disseminate research knowledge from biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences in order to reduce the health disparities experienced by vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities locally, regionally, and nationally.

The MHRC was established in 2002, and has maintained its status as a university-wide interdisciplinary research center, as well as a center of excellence (P60) funded by the National Institutes of Health. The MHRC supports three goals –research, training, and outreach–that align with UAB’s broad strategic goals and make it an enabling platform for UAB’s research, teaching, and service missions.

“I am proud to support the MHRC and assist their research efforts,” said Hollis. “It is an honor to represent the department in this leadership role, and I look forward to the work we will accomplish.”
