General Surgery Resident Connie Shao, M.D., has been awarded the 2022 Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) Writers Workshop Scholarship. 

The scholarship will fund her attendance at the 63rd SSAT Annual Meeting held during Digestive Disease Week on May 21-24, 2022 in San Diego, CA. The theme of this year’s meeting is connect, share, advance.

Shao will be presented the award at the SSAT and Foundation Awards Ceremony on May 22 and will be registered to attend the SSAT Writers Workshop. This year, the Writers Workshop is titled “Maximizing Your Research and Publications with Social Media”.

According to SSAT, the Writers Workshop Scholarships provide further education on the writing and revising of journal manuscripts as well as the submission process. To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, applicants were required to include a cover letter defining the ways in which this opportunity would enhance the applicant’s surgical practice and research and a letter of recommendation from a current SSAT member.
