UAB CampusUAB will welcome The World Games 2022 as its official host on July 7 - 17, 2022. Athletes will play several games, including Lacrosse, Tug of War, Racquetball, and Squash sports across UAB Athletics facilities on campus.

Plus, residence halls will be transformed into The World Games (TWG) 2022 UAB Athletes' Village, providing housing for athletes, coaches, and officials. Additionally, as an Official Medical Provider of The World Games, UAB Medicine will provide onsite medical services for athletes and spectators.

The large influx in spectators, athletes, and support services during TWG will impact traffic flow during commutes for some employees. Road closures and limited parking may exacerbate the congestion.

Please review the remote work policies within the Department of Surgery and test any equipment that you might need to work from home. Ensure all devices and the setup is functioning in the event that you work remotely during the games. All supervisors are encouraged to be flexible during this international event.

With increase of people in and around campus, please be aware of your surroundings when leaving campus and use the Rave Guardian app. The safety of employees is the utmost importance. Supervisors are encouraged to review how and when their staff arrive and leave UAB facilities during this time. Here are some resources to help you make a plan for yourself and your colleagues:

  • Rave Guardian - https://www.uab.edu/emergency/rave-guardian
  • Remote work - To avoid early or late travel, consider starting the day and/or finishing out the day remotely.
  • Don't go alone - Form walking groups to get colleagues to and from their vehicles or volunteer to shuttle a colleague to their vehicle.
  • See something, say something - security will be heightened during TWG events. If you see something suspicious do not hesitate to contact UAB Police at (205) 934-3535 or 911.
