Aaron Beckwith, M.D., and David Northern, M.D., FACS, two clinical assistant professors from the UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, are leaving UAB and moving on to the next chapters in their careers.

Both Beckwith and Northern were active duty Air Force surgeons and members of the Special Operations Surgical Teams (SOST) based at UAB.

Lieutenant Colonel Northern is leaving UAB for Colorado Springs, where he’ll be practicing general surgery as part of his assignment to the Air Force Academy. Northern served on SOST since 2015 and became a clinical assistant professor with the division in 2019.

Beckwith is heading to the University of Michigan for a pediatric surgery fellowship. He joined the division, and SOST, in 2018.

“It’s been an honor to have Aaron and David on our trauma team,” said Daniel Cox, M.D., associate professor and UAB’s Trauma Medical Director. “They’ve shown dedication, passion, and leadership as they’ve cared for our patients and taught surgical trainees, all while serving their country and deploying worldwide as special operations surgeons. We wish them well in their surgical careers and thank them for a job well done at UAB.”
