Call for Postdoctoral Applications for the T-90 Dental Academic Research Training (DART) Program

Description:

The School of Dentistry DART Program is now accepting applications for TWO postdoctoral positions beginning July 1, 2026. The T-90/R-90 Training Program, funded by the NIDCR, prepares its fellows for an academic career in either Basic Science or Clinical Translational Research.

Training Core Activities:

  • Participate in the weekly Journal Club and Research Seminar Series
  • Present at the SOD Annual Scholars Symposium
  • Attend SOD and GBS Grant Writing Program
  • Train in Responsible Conduct of Research
  • Submit Individual Fellowship Application

Financial Support:

  • NIH stipend based on years of postdegree experience. Renewable for up to 3 years, with satisfactory annual review
  • Health insurance
  • Travel support to attend conferences

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Research focus related to basic or clinical research in any of the following areas:
    • Craniofacial Development / Genetics
    • Oral Microbiology, Infection / Host Response
    • Biomaterial Science / Biomimetic
    • Implementation Science / Clinical Outcomes
    • Oral Cancer & Pain Biology

Training Application Materials:

  • A brief summary (3 pages max) of the research project (include research problem/background, objective, approach and project relevance to the DART focus areas) and career goals
  • Candidate's CV
  • A recommendation letter from the research mentor
  • Mentor NIH biosketch including current and pending funding

UAB is committed to the development and success of outstanding postdoctoral scientists. Here at UAB, nearly 300 postdoctoral fellows are training currently in a variety of disciplines. Competitive postdoc awards are available including internships, grant incentives, funds to enhance education and collaboration outside UAB, and teaching opportunities at local universities.
