Mentor: Dr. Yu-Hua Fang, Department of Radiology
Project:
Medical image processing and AI projects with model development, evaluation and applications in the fields of neural and cancer radiology.
Description:
A postdoctoral position is available immediately to join our projects focused on medical image processing and AI. We develop image processing, quantification and classification algorithms and models for automated, computer-assisted diagnostics and prognosis. Area of focus will be mainly neurological applications but some over neuro-oncology with PET, MR and CT modalities. This position will allow this postdoctoral trainee to broadly approach various topics in medical imaging research with a strong focus on developing and evaluating AI models, along with developing image processing algorithms, pipelines and workflows for our research program in molecular imaging, neurodegenerative diseases and radiology AI. For applicants with limited experience in AI previously, we will provide sufficient training and guidance to prepare this candidate with the necessary knowledge and capabilities for developing and testing AI models for clinical research projects and data. Support facilities and research environment at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine are outstanding.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree. Favored fields include biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or a related field, however all motivated applicants are encouraged to apply. Strong programming capabilities in either MATLAB or Python are required. Applicants with a background in either medical image processing, neuroimaging, medical AI are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants will preferably demonstrate past research productivity with additional preference given to candidates interested in attending scientific meetings, collaborations with other investigators within and outside of UAB, training grant writing opportunities, and pursuing a career in academic research.
