How can continuing education courses help me?

Continuing education courses can help you obtain new skills, earn required certificates, and keep up with the latest in research and methodology, among other benefits. Participating in continuing education courses and events is a requirement for many professions. In addition to the personal benefits, continuing education programs can also help companies build a stronger workforce and stay competitive.


Do I have to apply to UAB to take UAB continuing education courses?

No. While many of UAB’s continuing education programs are led by UAB faculty, they are separate from UAB’s academic courses. Most programs are available to the general public, with some programs being offered by invite only.


Will I get a degree by taking continuing education courses?

No, but many of the programs offer a certificate which can be beneficial for your career. UAB’s continuing education programs are offered as non-academic credit programs. The courses that you take are not applied toward a UAB degree. If you are interested in obtaining a UAB degree, we offer many different choices for undergraduate and graduate degrees, including online degree programs.


Do you offer customized programs for companies?

Yes. We have developed custom training programs to meet the needs of specific companies. Many of the UAB departments can also customize a set course for a company, adjusting the course to better match the company’s requirements. We have a corporate portal that makes it easier for companies to register and manage company-wide continuing education programs. Customized programs are subject to faculty and resource availability, and we may not be able to accommodate every request.


What is a BlazerID and why do I need one?

When you register for a course, you will be required to set up a unique BlazerID login credential. This is a UAB identification management system that serves as authentication in the Destiny platform and Canvas learning Management system.


How do I drop a UAB continuing education course?

Log into your Catalog account here and select “My Enrollment History.” If the course is still eligible to be dropped, that option will appear. If it is not eligible for drop status, please contact us at prostudies@uab.edu.


What is your refund policy?

Each school has its own custom refund policies and they are included in the individual course description.
