Call for Post-Doctoral Applications FY 2018 for the T-90 Dental Academic Research Training (DART) UAB School of Dentistry

The UAB-SOD Dental Academic Research Training (DART) Program, a predoctoral, dual degree and postdoctoral coordinated mentored research fellowship-training program in oral health discoveries, is accepting applications for the following position:

POST-Doctoral Position Available July 1, 2018

The DART POST-doctoral Training Program will prepare its fellows for a career in academic research in either Basic Science or Clinical Dental Research. Funding is provided from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Clinical or research doctoral degree required (e.g., MD, DMD, PharmD,PhD, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent).
  • Research focus related to basic or clinical research in any of the following areas:
  • Craniofacial Development and Genetics
  •  Dental Biomaterials or Tissue Engineering
  • Oral Immunology and Microbiology
  • Community Oral Health

Training Program:

  • Postdoctoral fellows in basic or translational research will be eligible for support from this Training Grant on admission to one of the faculty member’s laboratories with federal funding for mentor-based research training and to develop an independent project.
  • Trainee participation in all DART program activities is required.
  • Participation in the Academic Career Club
  • Attend the Scientific Writing Series
  • Presentation of an abstract at the School of Dentistry’s Scholars’ Symposium
  • Attend a Grant writing program
  • Students are expected to submit an NIH individual fellowship application (F32 or K99/R00) during the  period of their support.


  • Funding for Post-Doctoral Trainees is supported through an NIDCR T-90 Institutional Training Grant.
  • NIH stipend support  based on years’ post-degree renewable for up to 3 years, with annual review.
  • Partial coverage of tuition, and health insurance fees.
