Laken Grissom is from Oxford, Alabama, and graduated in the Spring of 2018 with a bachelor's degree in public health. While attending UAB, she took several service learning courses and participated in other service learning opportunities, such as Clinton Global Initiative University and Peace Corps Prep. As an Outreach and Engagement Fellow, her goal is to get students engaged in the Birmingham community in order to serve others, gain real life experience, and build their resumes. Her career goals include serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer and studying to get a master's degree in nonprofit management.

Amber Pope is from Pelham, Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama at BIrmingham in the fall of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Media and Film Production. She has previously attended Jefferson State community college. While at Jeff State, she was a member of the speech team where she won various regional and national awards. She also served as vice president of the team. During her time at UAB she made several films both in both narrative and documentary style. One of her films, “Blocked”, screened at the Sidewalk Film Festival in 2016. Her goal as a fellow is to create a video series that will draw more student and faculty interest in engaging with the surrounding communities in Birmingham.

Sean McMahon is from Millbrook, AL and graduated from UAB in the Spring of 2016 with a degree in public health. During his time at UAB, he participated in several service learning courses and worked with a variety of nonprofit organizations around the city of Birmingham. Sean went on to serve with the Peace Corps in Timor-Leste after graduating from UAB. As an Outreach and Engagement Fellow, he hopes to encourage students, faculty, and community members to serve others in whatever capacity they can. Sean’s long-term goals include both domestic and international advocacy work as well as learning languages and cultures different from our own.
