Purpose

The Health Equity Simulation is an In Silico, computer-based simulation intended to provide students and practicing healthcare professionals the opportunity to understand health equity and implicit bias. Health inequity is one of the most vexing problems we face in delivering healthcare, and healthcare providers may not be fully aware of the ways in which inequity is manifested during care delivery. One of the driving forces behind inequitable care is the everyday implicit bias that each of us holds, based on our culture and lived experiences. This simulation intends to provide a disruptive experience that can be used to educate and prompt discussion around biases in care delivery. The objective of this learning tool is to give practicing and future healthcare professionals an opportunity to increase empathy around and understanding of implicit bias in healthcare.
