During the week of Sept. 28, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Samford University came together for Birmingham CANnected: Two Schools. One City, bringing creative CANstruction designs to life around this year’s theme,“The Magic City.”

The UAB effort was led by Student Engagement, bringing Blazers, faculty, and staff together for a little friendly competition and a whole lot of giving back.

Together, both universities collected 10,000 pounds of canned and nonperishable food in support of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, providing approximately 8,300 meals for people in our community.

And after all the cans were stacked and the final designs were judged, it was time to name this year’s winners:

• UAB — Best Interpretation of Theme
• Samford — Best Structural Engineering
