Jennifer Griffin, director for Student Involvement and Leadership, was recently selected as a recipient of UAB’s inaugural President’s Award for Excellence in Shared Values.

The award was presented to Griffin and 19 other faculty and staff members in January 2021 for demonstrating one or more of UAB's shared values in the course of their work during the challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Griffin received the honor because she exemplified the shared values of respect, collaboration, excellence and achievement, stewardship, and accountability. Colleagues noted that despite having significant budget cuts in her department during COVID-19, she assisted her team by providing effective programs and services with fewer resources. Griffin found creative ways for team members to continue their professional development through monthly staff training and free webinars.

She also got creative, using social media and YouTube to deliver valuable content to students virtually throughout the Fall 2020 semester.

The award recipients represent five schools and six institutional units. UAB President Ray Watts recorded a special message for recipients to celebrate the honor.
