Student Experience

The University of Alabama at Birmingham's Division of Student Affairs, in conjunction with the Alys Stephens Center, Blazer Productions Assistants and the Blazer Spirit Council, are proud to host Grammy Award-winning rapper and producer T-Pain as the headline performer at this year's Welcome Back Concert.

Students, faculty and staff will gather on UAB’s Campus Green Saturday, August 26 at 6 p.m. to reunite with friends, discover local food trucks, and enjoy great music! Attendees can enter the venue through the 10th Ave. S entrance. Rapper Nando STL will open before T-Pain takes the stage at 8 p.m. The concert is a part of Blazer Welcome, a four-week celebration at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester.

Since emerging in 2004, T-Pain not only changed the course of pop, hip-hop, and R&B, but he also reshaped the fabric of the culture itself. Beyond moving over 50 million singles, gathering billions of streams, picking up six GRAMMY® Awards, and selling out shows on multiple continents, his voice could be heard loud and clear as “All I Do Is Win” soundtracked President Barack Obama’s entry into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, during the “most popular” NPR Tiny Desk concert in the series’ history, and when he shocked audiences everywhere as the first-ever winner of FOX’s smash The Masked Singer.

This year’s Welcome Back Concert is free for all students, faculty and staff. Attendees are able to reserve two tickets when presenting a valid One Card. Please note that there are no reprints. Once tickets have been reserved, put them in a safe place. There are no electronic tickets available, see below for more information on where to pick up tickets.

Attendees must scan their One Card with their ticket on the night of the concert. Ticketholders are allowed to bring (1) non-UAB affiliated guest; however, both tickets must be scanned simultaneously at check-in.

“I’m honored to be on the Welcome Back Concert Committee!” said Faiza Mawani, Blazer Spirit Council Executive Director, “I hope everyone comes ready to have an amazing time and is ready to show some Blazer spirit because personally, I cannot imagine a better kickoff to senior year!”

Gates for the event will open at 4:30 p.m. Seating on the Green is general admission. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for optimal comfort as UAB marks the beginning of the academic year.

T-Pain’s appearance marks the first time a national recording artist has performed on the UAB campus since rock band Weezer helped celebrate the university’s 50th anniversary in 2019. In 2018, a then-up-and-coming recording artist H.E.R. was the headliner for UAB’s Spring Concert.
