Hip-hop artist Kid Ink, known for songs like “Be Real” and “Body Language,” will be performing at UAB on Aug. 28. The artist follows fellow rapper B.o.B., who played on the Campus on the Green during 2015’s Welcome Week, as this year’s headliner for the annual Welcome Back concert.

Kid Ink released his first album, “Up and Away,” independently in 2012. In 2013, he signed a deal with R.A.C. Records, who Justin Timberlake and G-Eazy have also signed with in the past. His first album under R.C.A., “My Own Lane,” was released in 2014 and included the hit single “Show Me” featuring Chris Brown. “Show Me” peaked as #13 in the U.S. Billboard Charts and went double platinum. Kid Ink has worked with artists such as Fetty Wap, DJ Mustard, Dej Loaf, Usher and Tinashe.

This year’s Welcome Back concert will be held at the Student Center Greenway, the amphitheater outside the Hill Student Center dining area. The show starts at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. that night. Students can register for a free ticket at uab.edu/welcomeconcert. Faculty and staff tickets cost $5 and the general public can buy tickets for $10. Those with disabilities who require accommodations to access and enjoy the event are encouraged to email ccrotton@uab.edu by Aug. 25.

Students who wish to play the opening act for Kid Ink are encouraged to submit three clean songs to blazeradio@insideuab.com in order to be judged for the opportunity. The winning contestant will have a 15-minute set to open for the concert and will also receive a prize of $250 dollars courtesy of UAB Student Involvement and Leadership.

For the full list of the contest guidelines check out BlazeRadio's post. Visit uab.edu/welcomeconcert for more official information on the concert.
