UAB Students can help end student hunger by donating a meal
on Oct. 20th at Commons on the Green

Donor To Diner

Students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will have the opportunity to provide a meal for a fellow Blazer through a program called the Donor to Diner (D2D) One Meal Initiative.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20th, students can make donations at the Commons on the Green dining hall. The donations can be made from a student’s meal plan or five dollars paid in dining dollars, Blazer Bucks, cash or via credit card.

D2D, a student organization program, was established in 2015 in conjunction with UAB administration, Campus Dining and Student Outreach. The D2D One Meal Initiative allows donations to be converted to meal vouchers that UAB case managers distribute to deserving students. More than 900 meal vouchers were collected and distributed last school year through the One Meal Initiative program. Student Outreach at UAB is currently serving 23 students who are receiving 10-20 vouchers a month.

After launching the program, many students facing food insecurity have become aware of the prevalence of hunger and the existence of UAB resources designed to help them. As a result, the demand for meal voucher donations has significantly increased.

Stop by during breakfast or lunch on Friday, October 20th to make a difference in a student’s life!
