Promoters of Wellness

The Promoters of Wellness (POW) program gives students an opportunity to make a difference on campus. Offering peer education on interpersonal violence prevention, substance use prevention and recovery, and mental health, the POW team aims to promote a student culture of kindness, compassion, social responsibility and respect.

Purpose & Mission

Our Purpose

Collegiate peer health education is exceptionally important as more public secondary school systems cut funding for their health and physical activity programs. Many students are entering college without basic education on topics such as fitness, nutrition, sexual health, healthy relationships, and stress management. In addition to the lack of resources provided in secondary schools, most college majors do not require students to fulfill health education courses. This combination leads to students that are graduating without healthy behavior skillsets (i.e., coping and resiliency, defining personal boundaries, and self-care). Peer health education is one way that institutions can create graduates that are able to meet the demands of, and succeed in an ever-evolving globalized society.

Our Mission

The Promoters of Wellness program trains student leaders to empower, educate, and support students as they work towards achieving their health goals.
