Biology in the 21st Century: It Will Change Your World

Want to be a doctor, dentist, optometrist, pharmacist, ecologist, genetic counselor, or a professor? Do you want to cure cancer, Ebola, or Alzheimer’s disease? Maybe you want to help endangered species, discover new viruses, work in a biotech company, be a science journalist, design eco-friendly gardens, or save the environment from the consequences of climate change. UAB’s Biology Department is the place for you.

Our world-class scientists provide world-class training. We are highly successful in placing our undergraduates in health-related professional schools and in nationwide Ph.D. programs. We provide a wide range of hands-on research activities for our students, including a broad range of laboratory opportunities as well as the possibility of fieldwork at remote sites such as the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Galápagos Islands, and Antarctica. Our graduate students go on to distinguished careers in many fields and win national prizes for their research.
