  • The Chemistry Scholars Program pairs you with a faculty mentor, lets you participate in undergraduate research, and offers teaching experience.

About the Program

From advanced materials to drug development and more, chemistry drives the discoveries and technologies that transform our lives in the 21st century. A chemistry degree can be used in a variety of careers such as healthcare, research, and education.

But no matter what your future holds, we want to give you a competitive edge by offering research opportunities and an honors program to develop critical thinking and communication. First, you'll need to build a foundation with our core courses of Calculus, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Fundamentals of Biochemistry, and Quantitative Analysis. Then, you can choose from three concentrations, and for each one, a full-time academic advisor will help you stay on track. If you wish to pursue a career in teaching, you'll even be able to earn a certification to teach chemistry or general science through the UABTeach program.

Concentrations

  • Biochemistry
  • Forensic Chemistry
