Application Deadline: October 5, 2016
Only completed ERAS applications submitted by this date will be considered.
Applicants must register with ERAS for consideration as an applicant to the OB/GYN Residency Program. ERAS is installed in September and files can be accessed and downloaded from this point forward. The ERAS post office is contacted daily to scan for new applications to review. The basic criteria for downloading an applicant file consists of the following items:
- Three letters of recommendation
- A medical school transcript
- Dean’s letter (not received until October1)
- Personal Statement
Next, one faculty member and one resident review the applicant’s file. There is a score sheet for the faculty and resident to complete on each applicant. To be invited for an interview an applicant typically will have to meet a minimum score. Invitations are sent to the applicants via ERAS email with dates available for interviews. The interviews are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. The UAB applicants will interview with applicants from other medical schools. The daily applicant interview schedule will remain the same beginning at 7:00 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m. The applicants meet with the Program Director, two faculty members and two residents. Plus, there will be a luncheon for applicants, residents and faculty that have interviewed that day.
Once an applicant is selected for an interview, a “letter of confirmation” is emailed from the Program Coordinator. Enclosed, with the letter, is a list of basic information such as hotel accommodations, current residents in the program, and a map of UAB. We encourage the applicant to arrive early enough the evening before the interview for a dinner that is typically held at one of our resident's homes. This social event serves as an excellent venue for the residents and applicants to meet one another. The applicant, upon arrival for their interview, will be given a nametag and interview schedule to follow throughout the day. The faculty also receive a “packet” consisting of an interview score sheet, the applicant's daily interview schedule, a copy of the applicant's personal statement, CV and letter of recommendation. After the interview day, the faculty score sheets are returned to the Program Coordinator, which are entered into the ERAS system.
