Dr. Mason is vice president of Retina Consultants of Alabama. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He completed his residency training at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital followed by a two-year vitreoretinal disease and surgery fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Penn. Dr. Mason has been awarded the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award and the American Society of Retina Specialists Honor Award. He has been selected as one of the “Best Doctors in America” yearly since 2009. Dr. Mason has authored and coauthored numerous journal articles and book chapters; has participated in several clinical trials; and has presented scientific posters, platform presentations, scientific videos, and instruction courses at state, national, and international ophthalmology societal meetings during his twenty years of practice.
Dr. Mason is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, The Retina Society, American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the International Society of Ocular Oncologists. His major research areas are diabetic eye disease, macular surgery, and ocular oncology. He is an invited instructor in two areas -- diabetic retinopathy and sutureless vitreoretinal surgery at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.
