Dr. McCollum sees patients with ocular emergencies, supervises the medical care of the department, and works together with other staff in planning and evaluating the work of the department. He is active in global outreach efforts to bring ophthalmic services to underserved communities. From 1998-2012, Dr. McCollum worked on childhood eye care projects in the Central Asian countries of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Dr. McCollum is subspecialty trained in cornea and external disease from Duke University. He recently earned a Certificate in Global Health Studies from the Sparkman Center at UAB, and is a fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
