jackie PalmorePalliative Care Coordinator

 

 

 

Jackie Palmore, RN, was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her father was in the Air Force and they traveled extensively and lived in a variety of places. She attended Wetumpka High School in Wetumpka, Alabama graduating in 1980. She graduated from UAB School of Nursing in 1986.

Jackie's nursing career started at UAB in Oncology and CCU and began working in Home Health and Hospice in 1990. Prior to joining the Center for Palliative Care in September 2004 she served as the Hospice Director for Alacare Home Health and Hospice for 5 years and has worked for two other Hospices in the Birmingham area as well. She implemented the first Hospice Prison program in four prisons in Alabama in 2001, training inmates to care for other dying inmates.

Jackie's role as Palliative Care Coordinator includes working with the Palliative Care Team on a daily basis assisting with hospital consults as well as being a liaison for the Palliative Care program within the hospital and community. She is also involved in coordination and follow up of patients referred to Hospice. She is a certified ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education) trainer and as well as a Certified Hospice Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN).
