Biography

Dr. Parmar, an Alabama native, graduated from the UAB School of Medicine in 2008. After completing a surgical residency at the University of California, San Francisco – East Bay Department of Surgery, he completed a fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. He is board certified in General Surgery, has received numerous teaching and research awards, and has expertise in advanced laparoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract. Specifically, he has experience in general and laparoscopic surgery of diseases of the diaphragm, esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small intestine, adrenal glands, and spleen. He also has an interest in laparoscopic repair of abdominal wall/inguinal hernias and in antireflux surgery including implantation of the LINX device, a novel treatment for severe reflux.

In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Parmar has extensive experience with health outcomes research and is the author of more than 25 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
