Iron Giant Percussion Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Center Sirote Theatre, 1200 10th Ave. South.
Iron Giant Percussion Ensemble was formed when music students Sam Herman, Brett Huffman, Seth Noble and Justin Wallace collaborated outside of class. Iron Giant received the honor of a commissioned concert by the Birmingham Art Music Alliance to be presented for the 2012-13 season. Free.

Music Convocation featuring Michael Babbitt, a composer for TV and Film and is a product engineer for Spectrasonics, a software company that makes the leading sound design and music underscoring software used in TV and Film (Stylus RMX and Omnisphere). We are installing both in our labs and recording studio, and Michael will be presenting/demonstrating the software while here.

UAB Piano Series: Nikolai Lugansky, 4 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens CenterReynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. Lugansky is widely considered one of the world’s great interpreters of piano repertoire. His concerts, recitals and chamber music performances throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas have earned him the applause of critics and audiences alike. His recordings include Chopin’s “Etudes,” Rachmaninov’s “Preludes and Moments Musicaux” and Chopin’s “Preludes,” all of which won Diapason d’Or de L’Annee awards. The UAB Gospel Choir celebrates its 17th anniversary with a live recording for a DVD release featuring the Choir, Gospel Choir kids and Gospel Youth Choir.
