UAB to honor veterans with wreath laying, Sen. Doug Jones to speak

The ceremony will be from 2-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, on the UAB Campus Green.

Veterans ServicesWreath3 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will host a wreath laying ceremony from 2-3 p.m. on Veteran’s Day, Monday, Nov. 11, on the Campus Green. This year, U.S. Senator Doug Jones will present the keynote address.

This is the fifth annual year for the ceremony. Walter Stewart, director of Veterans Services in the Division of Student Affairs, began the wreath laying tradition as a way to recognize and honor veterans at UAB.

“As a retired Army veteran, I believe that UAB should take every opportunity afforded to us to honor and recognize our military population,” Stewart said. “This event allows the UAB community to pause and honor our veterans, who have had to transition into or out of civilian life.”

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to a reception in the Veterans Services lounge in the Hill Student Center, Suite 313, until 4 p.m. For disability accommodations, email dss@uab.edu.
