“UAB StoryPower: A Call to Care” on Nov. 14: UAB Medicine employees share how they care for others

Using the power of live storytelling, UAB Medicine employees will share stories from their careers in patient care at this Arts in Medicine event.

AIM2Celebrate members of the UAB Medicine community as they share uplifting, humorous and heartbreaking stories from their careers in patient care Thursday, Nov. 14.

“UAB StoryPower: A Call to Care” is presented by the UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine, a collaboration with UAB Medicine and UAB Visual and Performing Arts.

The one-hour program will take place from noon-1 p.m. in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium, 620 19th St. South.

As UAB celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, memories are being collected for the UAB 50th anniversary oral history project. The “StoryPower” event builds on this theme, but also reconnects UAB Medicine employees with their initial inspiration to care for others, through the power of live storytelling, says AIM Director Kimberly Kirklin.

Emcees for “StoryPower” will be Jordan DeMoss, vice president of clinical operations at UAB Hospital, and Elizabeth Vander Kamp, AIM artist-in-residence. On the program to share stories from their experiences are:

  • Senior Vice President Anthony Patterson, RN, MSHA.
  • Chief Medical Officer Martin Heslin, M.D.
  • Vineeta Kumar, M.D., director of the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Program.
  • Minnie Greene, Purple Car and Guest Services.
  • Terri Middlebrooks, R.N., Clinical Care coordinator on the ACE Unit.
  • Donita White, manager, Guest Services.
  • Sammy Yassin, R.N., Neurosurgery.
  • Wendy Walters, LICSW, clinical ethics consultant.

Lunch will be provided to the first 100 attendees. For more information email artsinmedicine@uabmc.edu.
