See aerial dance company Bandaloop free on UAB campus Sept. 24

Bandaloop will take dance to new heights suspended from the roof of UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. Enjoy food trucks, live music and more as the ASC celebrates its 25th anniversary season.

Per UAB policy, media are not allowed on UAB’s campus or inside UAB buildings without an escort from our media relations team. The noon preview and the 7:30 p.m. performance, with live music and food trucks, will kick off the 25th anniversary season of UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Bandaloop is a pioneer in aerial performance and seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. The company’s work reimagines dance, activates public spaces and inspires wonder in audiences around the globe. Bandaloop will be in residence at UAB from Sept. 19-24. This mesmerizing dance company will suspend from the roof of the center while dancing on the side wall of the building.  

  • Free preview at noon Friday, Sept. 24, on the UAB Campus Green, with dancers suspended from the top of the UAB Recreation Center. 
  • Free performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, outdoors with dancers on the exterior wall of the ASC in the lower circle. Appropriate for all ages. Guests are asked to register for this event in advance due to limited capacity. Register online.

String Theory, Birmingham’s instrumental modern pop group, will perform before the evening event. Formerly Blue Galaxy String Project, this amazing group of top musicians fuses the elegance of symphonic strings with the pop sounds everyone loves. 

The Alys Stephens Center invites guests to arrive early and stay late. Gates open at 6 p.m., with String Theory performing at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Bandaloop performance. Food trucks on-site will include Fat Charles BBQ, Eugene’s Hot Chicken and Steel City Pops.
