2012 Expo spotlights undergraduate research

Undergraduate students show off their academic research on a wide range of topics with Expo 2012, April 20 in Heritage Hall.

UAB and the College of Arts and Sciences will present the fifth annual UAB Expo: An Exposition of Undergraduate Scholarship, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 20, 2012. The day will spotlight UAB undergraduate students’ excellence in research, scholarship and creativity and showcase their academic endeavors. This year’s expo will feature scientific poster and podium presentations, displays and films.

student_expo_storyThe expo is a student-planned and organized event. It provides an opportunity for participating undergraduate students to gain experience through oral or poster presentations on their research. This past year, 180 student presenters represented more than three-quarters of the majors offered at UAB. The presentations ranged from music performances to robotics.

Poster judging for Expo 2012 on April 20 is planned from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Center Court of the Campus Recreation Center, 1501 University Blvd. Poster and oral presentations are planned from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the Heritage Hall Building, 1401 University Blvd. A speaker will engage audiences from 11 to 11:45 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony then a film session at 1:15 p.m., all in Heritage Hall.
