The UAB Gospel Choir will perform at Pentecostal Temple in Macon, Ga., at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, and at United Praise Church International in Riverside, Ala., at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. A female ensemble from the Gospel Choir will perform for a program commemorating the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. The ensemble will perform “You Don’t Know What I Could Have Been,” a song written by Turner in memory of the four girls who died on the day the church was bombed. The event is presented by the American Psychiatric Association’s Office of Minority and National Affairs in partnership with the American Association of Community Psychiatrists, UAB Center for Psychiatric Medicine and the Alabama Psychiatric Society District Branch. The program is open to the public and will focus on the capacity of communities to heal and be resilient in the aftermath of trauma and tragedy. The event will be held at 1700 University Blvd., on the fourth floor. For more information, contact Sejal Patel, OMNA on-tour coordinator, at spatel@psych.org or 703-907-8579.

For the anniversary concert, the Gospel Choir’s Step and Mime team is returning to the stage. Special guest soloist for the concert is Lisa Blackmon. The choir will perform music from its “Nu-Soul City” and “MIRRORS” recordings, plus favorites from more than 10 years ago. Advance purchase of concert tickets is strongly recommended as Gospel Choir concerts often sell out. Tickets are $7 general admission, and there is a $5 group rate for 20 or more with advance purchase required. For tickets, call the ASC Box Office at 205-975-2787.
