UAB Music presents summer concert events

Hear burgeoning musicians, catch the spirit, say goodbye and good luck and celebrate July 4, all with the UAB Department of Music this summer.

fourth of julyThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music has announced its summer 2014 calendar of concerts, including a “bon voyage” performance by the UAB Concert Choir, which is headed to Latvia in July.

On Saturday, June 14, the UAB Summer Music Camp will present a finale concert featuring all campers at 1 p.m. in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Admission is free.
 
On Sunday, June 15, the UAB Gospel Choir will present a Father’s Day concert, conducted by Kevin P. Turner. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. at the ASC. Tickets are $7 general admission and $6 for UAB students, faculty and staff, and $6 each for groups of 20 or more with advance purchase required. Call 205-975-2787 for ticket information.
 
On Thursday, July 3, the Department of Music will present the UAB Concert Choir, as the choir heads to Riga, Latvia, to represent the United States in the “Olympics of choirs,” the Interkultur Eighth World Choir Games from July 5-19. The Concert Choir, conducted by Brian Kittredge, DMA, will perform at 7 p.m. at the ASC. Admission is free.

concert choir 2014UAB will celebrate July 4 with the annual UAB Summer Band Independence Day concert at 7 p.m. on the Bartow Arena lawn, 617 13th St. South. Bring picnics, blankets and chairs, and enjoy a free, family-friendly patriotic concert under the stars. Stay and watch the fireworks over Red Mountain at 9 p.m.
 
On Friday, Aug. 22, students, staff, faculty and the community are invited to enjoy the UAB Marching Blazers Band Camp Show, free at 7:30 p.m., on the Campus Green. The Marching Blazers will offer a sneak peek at their new halftime show.
