UAB Concert Choir, Opera and Chamber Singers to perform at Southside Baptist Church on Oct. 21

The UAB Concert Choir, Opera and Chamber Singers will perform a program of choral works by American and English composers and a preview of the upcoming Department of Music production “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

concert choir 2015UAB Concert ChoirMore than 80 student singers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham will perform a fall choral collage Friday, Oct. 21, at Southside Baptist Church.

The UAB Concert Choir, Opera and Chamber Singers, from the College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Music, will perform at 7 p.m. at the church, which is located near the campus, at 1016 19th St. South. The program will include a variety of choral repertoire, focusing largely on the music of English and American composers, says conductor Brian Kittredge, DMA, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk, DMA, directs UAB Opera.

Featured on the program will be works by Britten, Bennett, Persichetti, Shaw/Parker, Burchard, Childs, Gibbs and more. Also on the program will be a sneak preview of UAB Opera’s upcoming fully staged production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” The opera is set for 7:30 p.m. each night Nov. 17-18 in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
