CNN’s Symone Sanders presents “Black History, American History” March 20 at UAB

SandersJoomlaSymone SandersThe University of Alabama at Birmingham’s office of Student Involvement and Leadership concludes the spring 2019 UAB Lecture Series with a discussion on three key steps to becoming more involved with social issues, featuring national political strategist and CNN political commentator Symone Sanders.

For the March 20 lecture, Sanders will discuss the topic “Black History, American History” and shed light on three key steps to becoming more involved with social issues:

  • Using your voice on campus to react to local and national issues
  • Creating community in adopting intersectionality on campus
  • Making strategies for being a part of “The New Civil Rights Movement”

In the spring of 2018, Sanders was a resident fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School. She has also served as the chair of the Coalition of Juvenile Justice Emerging Leaders Committee and member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.

In 2016, at the age of 25, she worked as the national press secretary for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and earned herself a spot on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 16 young Americans shaping the 2016 election.

She is currently a principal of the 360 Group LLC, where she administers strategic communications guidance to organizations, businesses, individuals, campaigns and candidates and helps clients find sound solutions to tough political and social problems.

This lecture will be held in UAB Hill Student Center Ballrooms C and D. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the discussion begins at 6 p.m., followed by a 15-minute Q&A. This event is free and open to the public.
