UAB ensemble invited to perform at international conference

The UAB Trumpet Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 2011 International Trumpet Guild Conference, to be held in May in Minneapolis.

uab_trumpet__ensemble-03_siteThe eight-member group was selected by audition. They will perform Thursday, May 26, 2011.

The ensemble is led by Marc Reed, D.M.A., assistant professor of trumpet and assistant director of bands in the UAB Department of Music.

For their performance, the ensemble will premiere two new pieces by UAB Music faculty. The first is a new composition by William Price, D.M.A., assistant professor, titled “Pieces of Eight.” The second piece is an arrangement of “Tuxedo Junction” by Steve Roberts, D.M.A., assistant professor.

UAB Trumpet Ensemble members are Tommy Bowen, Kelsie Dale, Katharine Gay and William Strickland of Birmingham, Joel Brown of Dothan, Patrick Dailey of Pinson, Jeremiah Johnson of Fort Payne and Christopher Jones of Danville.

This will be the 36th annual International Trumpet Guild conference.
