Dance Marathon, UAB’s newest student group, intends to raise money and awareness for the Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s Hospital of Birmingham.

At 6 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2012, the group will host an initial fundraising Dance-Off event at UAB’s Hill University Center, 1400 University Boulevard. Individuals and teams of up to five people can donate $5 to $15 to participate in a dance competition. UAB students, community members, faculty and staff are all invited to participate. For details, contact Kira Siegel at 205-934-8073.

Dance Marathon combines music, food, games and themes with dancing to raise money for patients being treated at Children’s Hospital. Events are planned throughout the year. On April 19-20, 2013, at UAB’s Campus Rec Center, Dance Marathon will culminate with a final celebration dance-a-thon. Dancers will receive donations for volunteering to stay on their feet for the duration of the event — standing on your feet signifies standing for those children who cannot, according to the group.

Dance Marathon is a philanthropic event held on university campuses and in cities nationwide.
