Alys Stephens Center presents star-studded tour “Experience Hendrix”

hendrix 2See some of guitar rock’s most respected artists as they pay homage to one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time when the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center presents “Experience Hendrix” on Sept. 25.

Since 2004, with the endorsement of the Jimi Hendrix family, “Experience Hendrix” has been delighting fans at sold-out shows worldwide, and musicians love this show as much as fans do. It is a time for them to come together and celebrate one of their biggest and most important musical influences.

This star-studded tour stop in Birmingham will feature Billy Cox, original member of Band of Gypsys and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, legendary Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy, along with guitar phenoms Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II, Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes, and drummer Chris Layton of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble.

The tour offers performers and the audience the chance to witness unique collaborations among its featured artists and will highlight these artists’ favorite Hendrix signature songs, including “Little Wing,” “Fire,” “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” It is this fusion of classic Hendrix music combined with the unique pairing of practicing musicians that makes “Experience Hendrix” such an uncommon musical treat, dishing up night after night of legendary music and an exciting stage show.
